Blast from the past!

Da-Da-Da-Da-Ta-Da - Charge!

We're from the town with that great football team,
We cheer the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Chuck Noll and all his friends are all on the field.
Go out and get them Steelers.

Bradshaw, and Rocky, and Franco and Lynn,
We love you Pittsburgh Steelers.
It's been many years in coming,
just keep that Steelers machinery humming

Defense, Defense, make them scramble, intercept that ball.
Defense, Defense, keeps the Steelers always best of all!
Mean Joe, Mean Joe, do your thing against the other team,
You start from year to year, we're so glad you play here,
Now join with me, and sing the Steelers cheer-er-ER!

We're from the town with that great football team,
We cheer the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Winning's a habit, not only a dream,
Go out and get them Steelers!

Gerela's Gorrilas are here for the show,
and so is Franco's Army,
It's been many years in coming,
just keep that Steelers machinery humming.

Offense, Offense, take that football whole way up the field!
Offense, Offense, let's score and score and never ever yield!
Franco, Franco, can you believe we have a running game?

The Steelers are so great, and so hard to overrate,
Good things, will come, to those who work and wait.

Charge!

What a combination!

I’ve got a mix of Hosanna and Queen in my head, crazy.
You know all of those news stories and articles in the paper about how the kids in the U.S. are getting really bad grades compared to, lets say, kids in Korea...well, I’ve just been thinking about them. I don’t remember what I was watching but they were talking about why many people think this is happening. They said one reason is the fact that instead of just teaching the facts and the things we need to know from the beginning, we are taught that everyone succeeds and everyone can reach their goals if they,
"*shoot for the stars!*" While other kids are being taught the basics of something they can build on throughout their education we are being told that if we set our minds to it everyone wins. When they did that big study a while ago and the Korean kids were in first and the U.S. was last, the kids from the U.S., with their eyes set on their dreams, thought that they came in first only to be crushed in the end. I’m not saying that we shouldn’t inspire the younger ones. By all means, tell them they can do anything IF THEY SET THEIR MIND TO IT AND STAY THE COURSE. Many kids are led to believing everything will be alright because their teachers told them that they will fly one day but soon they find out that while they were getting their little ribbons saying, "everyone’s a winner," other kids were working hard to go on to better things. It just kills me that in grade school everyone is taught to aim for success but in high school the rugs pulled out from under you and now all of those, "im a winner" ribbons don’t matter anymore. For goodness sakes, give they speeches! Motivate the kids but don’t throw them into the false sense of security that they will be president just cuz they have dreams. As Chris was saying, we really need to improve the whole education thing...wow, this ended up being much longer than I wanted it to be. I guess my point is to teach the kids to dream big, but in order for anything to happen they’ve got to work above their limits.

"I gotta be cool relax, get hip
Get on my track's
Take a back seat, hitch-hike
And take a long ride on my motor bike
Until I'm ready (Ready Freddie)
Crazy little thing called love

This thing called love I just can't handle it
this thing called love I must get round to it
I ain't ready
Crazy little thing called love "

Attention please!

Hey!
We just watched the dvd from the fall sports banquet. it was really good! I cant wait till the band banquet, mostly Im excited about the slideshow. Its always really good and makes me want to cry, and this year i probably will. should be great. i also heard that we arent giving out the senior awards at this one but there will be another time to do that...i guess thatll be more practical, but one fun thing about the awards was that you announced them and sometimes it was best not to explain them to the other people there, well, like the parents. anyway, i still cant wait!

The Cricket Game of Life

In Catholic Vocations class we started watching a movie about C.S. Lewis called "the shadow lands." (or something close to that) Its pretty good, a little hard to get through the accents but, still good. Its on Christian marriage. We aren't finished , so I wont explain anything yet.

Today is the first official full-cast practice for the musical. Im really excited about it! The songs are really cute!

Smitty: Well, here it is five pm,The finish of a long day's work;
And there they are, both of them,The secretary and the clerk.
Not very well acquainted;Not very much to say;
But I can hear those two little mindsTickin' away.

Now she's thinking:
Rosemary: I wonder if we take the same bus?
Smitty: And he's thinking:
Finch: There could be quite a thing between us.
Smitty: Now she's thinking:
Rosemary: He really is a dear.
Smitty: And he's thinking:
Finch: But what of my career?
Smitty: And she says:
Rosemary: Hmm.
Smitty: And he says:
Finch: A hum heh.Well, it's been a long day.
All: Well, it's been a long,Been a long, been a long,Been a long day.
Smitty: Now, she's thinking:
Rosemary: I wish that he were more of a flirt.
Smitty: And he's thinking:
Finch: I guess a little flirting won't hurt.
Smitty: Now she's thinking:
Rosemary: For dinner we could meet.
Smitty: And he's thinking:
Finch: We both have got to eat.
Smitty: And she says:
Rosemary: Achoo!
Smitty: And he says:
Finch: Gesundheit.Well, it's been a long day.
All: Well, it's been a long,Been a long, been a long,Been a long day.
Smitty: Hey, there's a yummy Friday special at Stouffer's;
It's a dollar ninety vegetable plate
And on the bottom of the ad--not bad--Service for two, three-fifty-eight.
(To make a bargain, make a date.)
Rosemary: Wonderful.
Finch: It's fate.
Smitty: Now she's thinking:
Rosemary: What female kind of trap could I spring?
Smitty: And he's thinking:
Finch: I might as well forget the whole thing.
Smitty: Now, she's thinking:
Rosemary: Suppose I take his arm.
Smitty: And he's thinking:
Finch: Well, really what's the harm?
Smitty: And she says: Rosemary: Hungry?
Smitty: And he says:

Finch: Yeah!
Rosemary: Yeah!
Smitty: Yeah.
All: Well, it's been a long day.
Well, it's been a long, Been a long, been a long,Been a long day.
Well, it's been a long, Been a long, been a long,Been a long day.

In the Glory...

One of my teachers was talking about the mining accident yesterday. She said that they interviewed one of the wives or mothers of a miner that was killed. She said, "You might think we're all dumb here but we love our families/each other." When people act like snobs because they think they are "more advanced," than you, just laugh it off. Obviously they've got some issues to work out within themselves. Most of the time, when they act like that it's because either they feel insecure about themselves or they know that youre actually happier in life. In the big scheme of things, when this is all over, class, gender, and race won't matter and, if the people I was talking about want to believe it or not, it wont matter how much you know (learned in school). What will really matter is if you used life for the glory of God, or yourself.

"If thou reliest more upon thine own reason or industry than upon the virtue that subjects to Jesus Christ, thou wilt seldom and hardly become an enlightened man; for God wishes us to be perfectly subject to Himself, and to transcend all reason by inflamed love."
-Thomas a Kempis Of the Imitation of Christ Bk. 1 Ch. 4 v. 13

*First post of the new year!*

Well, Ive been reading Dark night of the Soul by St. John of the Cross. So far it is really good! My brother said that he thought it was good but hard to read. That's true, it is kinda hard to read but you can get the basic points he tries to make. I shall continue to read and report.

To comment on the miners...I'm so sorry. I'm sure there was some communication error or something, but before the annoucement that they were all alive, the guys kept waiting hours before they let any news out of the rescue. They make sure everything was true. They probably just heard something wrong and got excited. Please pray for the families and friends and the one miner that is in critical condition.

God does everything for a reason, don't forget that.
